Our Classes

The Willard 6th Grade Band program is an exciting opportunity for students to begin their musical journey while being part of a brand-new school community! Students will study and receive hands-on instruction in a fun, supportive environment on a variety of different instruments!. Our band classes focus on building strong fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence as students learn to read music and perform together. We are thrilled to welcome our first group of Willard band students and can’t wait to make music together in this exciting new chapter! πŸŽΆβ€‹

Flute

The flute is a bright, elegant instrument known for its clear, soaring sound. As one of the highest-pitched instruments in the band, it often carries beautiful melodies that shine above the ensemble. Flute students will develop strong breath control, finger technique, and tone production while building musicianship skills in a fun and supportive environment. It plays an essential role in creating the band’s vibrant and expressive sound!

Oboe

The oboe is a highly distinctive instrument with a clear, focused sound that easily stands out in the band. It often carries important melodic lines and plays a key role in tuning the ensemble, making it an essential voice in the group. Oboe students develop strong attention to detail and control as they create a precise, centered tone. Its unique color adds clarity and character to the overall sound of the band!

​​​​​​The bassoon is a distinctive woodwind instrument known for its rich, resonant low sound and expressive character. It often provides both melodic interest and important support within the harmony of the band. Bassoon students develop strong breath control, finger dexterity, and musicianship as they help anchor the ensemble’s sound. Its unique tone adds depth, personality, and balance to the overall band! β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Saxophone

The saxophone is a versatile and expressive instrument known for its bold, rich sound and smooth tone. It often carries melody, harmony, and everything in between, making it an important and flexible voice in the band. Saxophone students develop strong breath support, coordination, and musical expression as they learn to blend and stand out when needed. Its sound adds energy, warmth, and character to the overall ensemble! 

The Beginning Band will perform several concerts throughout the first year, as well as travel to Contests and Festivals to compete against bands from around the state. The Beginning Band is primarily made up of 6th grade students, but special consideration can be made on a case-by-case basis for older students interested in joining band.  You can start band in any grade, but the best time to start an instrumental skill is your first year of middle school!

Supplemental private lessons are available and are recommended by the Celina Band Directors. You can find information about each of the different instruments by clicking here!​

The Moore Middle School Wind Ensemble is considered the second most advanced band in the Moore Band Program. It is designed to emphasize continued individual development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy through a progressive curriculum of upper middle school literature. Students in this band must be highly proficient on their instrument and must be willing to commit to regular rehearsal and practice time.

 

In addition to daily class period rehearsals, students in the Wind Ensemble should plan for one 45-minute sectional rehearsal per week outside of class, as well as an occasional extra full band rehearsal throughout the year. Students in this band are required to participate in the scheduled rehearsals, concerts, pep rallies, and contests. In addition, every student will audition for the ATSSB All Region Band and participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival Contest.

It is also strongly recommended that the student participate in the district supplemental private lesson program.

​

The Moore Middle School Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Ms. Terral and meets during 4th Period. On occasion, the Wind Ensemble may utilize the Moore Middle School "Bobcat Hour" for extra rehearsals leading up to the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest.  Students in the Symphonic Band will also have direction from Mrs. McHenry, Mrs. Vela, Mr. Allen, and other esteemed clinicians and teachers.

Students in this band must be highly proficient on their instrument and must be willing to commit to regular rehearsal and practice time.

 

In addition to daily class period rehearsals, students in the Symphonic Band should plan for one 30-minute sectional rehearsal per week outside of class, as well as an occasional extra full band rehearsal throughout the year. Students in this band are required to participate in the scheduled rehearsals, concerts, pep rallies, and contests. In addition, every student is encouraged to audition for the ATSSB All Region Band and will participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival Contest.

It is also strongly recommended that the student participate in the district supplemental private lesson program.

Students in this band must be proficient on their instrument and willing to commit to regular rehearsal and practice time.

 

In addition to daily class period rehearsals, students in this band are required to participate in the scheduled rehearsals, concerts, pep rallies, and contests. In addition, every will participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival Contest.

It is also strongly recommended that the student participate in the district supplemental private lesson program.

The Beginning Band is the first step in the journey as a member of the Moore Middle School Band.  Students in the Beginning Band will enjoy instrument specific classes where they can learn to play their chosen instrument in a small-group setting.  Students will learn how to properly assemble, hold, and play their instrument in a fun and progressive course designed to teach all of the skills necessary to perform concerts for your family and friends!
