Nine Consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards
Marching Band
The Bobcat Marching band performs at all CHS pep rallies, varsity football games, marching contests and community events. During the fall marching contest season, the band meets daily at 7:00am and from 6:30pm – 8:30pm on Tuesday evenings. From August through early November, the marching band works to perfect their contest/halftime show. Following the marching contest season, students perform a new halftime feature each week through out the rest of the playoff football games. Rehearsals are fast paced and energetic, and the music is challenging and rewarding. Students learn marching skills, musicality, and interpretive movement in a highly disciplined yet fun environment. The Bobcat Marching Band enjoys a reputation of excellence that results from hard work, dedication, and cooperation with their peers. The marching band experiences the joy of performing in front of large appreciative audiences at football games and contests with PRIDE in everything we do, TRUST in ourselves and our fellow band members, and RESPECT for ourselves, our fellow band members, and all persons in authority.
All band students are required to perform in the marching band.
Concert Band
The state award winning Celina High School Concert Band meets daily at 7:30 am, beginning at the conclusion of marching season. Students study and perform music from all historic periods and a variety of styles. Performances include a Christmas concert, a spring concert, and contest appearances.
Students also participate in UIL solo and ensemble events, both on the region and state levels, and the Celina Solo and Ensemble contest. Celina band students have gone on to perform in university bands across the country, including UNT, University of Miami, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas A&M Commerce, and Northwestern State in Louisianna.
Jazz Ensemble
The jazz Ensemble is an extra-curricular ensemble that meets twice per week after the football season is completed. Students explore different styles in the genre of swing, funk, rock, latin, and other more progressive styles. The Jazz Ensemble is a non-competing group that performs at the spring concert, band banquet, and community events when invited. Emphasis is placed on independence, style, interpretation, ensemble concepts and improvisation.
