Mr. Rutherford

Mr. Rutherford, or “Mr. R.” as many of the students like to call him has been with the Celina band program since 1992.  He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri in 1984.  He completed his Master of Music in trombone performance under Royce Lumpkin  at the University of North Texas in 1992.

Under the direction of Mr. Rutherford, the program has received many awards, including consistent UIL Sweepstakes, two appearances at the Texas State Marching Contest, TMEA Honor Band state runner-up, two time ATSSB state runner-up and five time ATSSB State winner.

The program includes concert band, marching band, an after school spring jazz ensemble, and various chamber groups.  The Celina Band has appeared in performances throughout Texas and in Colorado and Chicago in the prestigious National Music Adjudicators Festival.  The band has performed with internationally famous musicians Bill Watrous and Allen Vizzutti.

Mr Rutherford resides with his wife, Valarie, and his two daughters, Harmony and Melody.
